Guest Post and Giveaway: "Hunger" by Felicity Heaton

Introduction to the Vampires Realm series by Felicity Heaton

It’s great to be here at Underworld Love Addiction today as part of the Hunger Virtual Book Tour celebrating the release of the latest book in my Vampires Realm series of paranormal romance novels.

Today, I’m going to be introducing you all to the Vampires Realm romance series.

But before we get to the main event, I want to introduce myself. I’m a British paranormal romance author and a New York Times and USA Today best-seller. I have been writing since 2005, and went indie in 2006. I love to write big worlds, populated by vampires, shifters, demons, fae and angels, and I have several series. This tour is about the Vampires Realm series, which focuses on the world of the seven pureblood vampire families of Europe, the werewolves fighting for their freedom, the weakling vampires, and the vampire hunters determined to destroy them all.

Now, on with the show…

I’m never sure where to begin when I have to talk about the world of my Vampires Realm series. It seems so huge and daunting, and I don’t want to miss anything.

The Vampires Realm series is a work of passion for me. It’s the darkest and deadliest world of vampires that I write, and it’s also the original world. I began this series back in 2007 with the Prophecy Trilogy. At the time, I was only going to write those three long novels but as I worked on them, I realised that I had built such a beautifully detailed world and had found many other characters in the books that I wanted to write stories for too. There are several other stories woven into the Prophecy Trilogy, some of which I have since written.

Everyone who knows me knows that I adore writing dark vampires, ones who will kill without apology and see humans as a food source. I enjoy exploring their darker nature, the side of their legend that a lot of authors tend to avoid in favour of a lighter kind of vampire (those who like bagged blood, abstain completely, or possibly sparkle). Like my vampires, I make no apologies for their behaviour. They fight, they love, they kill, and they do what they must to survive.

In the series, seven separate bloodlines share Europe, and sometimes cities (but never willingly and never without some serious confrontations). Each has a long bloody history with the others and all have been involved in wars with each other throughout the millennia. They are territorial and more often than not at least two bloodlines are at each other’s throats. Despite the battles that often rage between their families, humans are for the most part unaware of the existence of vampires. Only those unfortunate enough to find themselves on the menu or those who have survived an encounter and become a vampire hunter know of them.

There are vampire hunters in the world of the Vampires Realm series, and while most of them aren’t a threat to the vampires of the seven pure bloodlines, there are some organisations that are on the rise and are becoming worthy of the attention of their nocturnal adversaries.

But vampire hunters and other bloodlines aren’t the only enemies the vampires in my series face. There are the free werewolves too, those who have escaped or avoided the compounds owned by the bloodlines, as well as witches, demons straight out of Hell and even angels.

The world of the seven pure bloodlines is dark and deadly, and the lives of the vampires are complicated by hierarchies, rules and laws that spell certain death to anyone who dares to break them by falling in love with a human, werewolf or a vampire from another family. But it doesn’t stop these passionate creatures of the night from following their hearts, fighting for their love, and taking on the world to claim their forever after.

The world of Vampires Realm is so vast that I can only touch on it in this post, but as the Hunger Virtual Book Tour progresses, I will be talking about elements of the world in more detail, as well as interviewing the hero and heroine of the novel, and sharing excerpts with you all.

I hope this post has given you some insight into the series, and that you’ll join me on the tour. If you can’t wait, you can find out more about the series, the books and the characters at my website: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk/vampires-realm-romance-series.php

Excerpt From "Darkness Falls" by Erin Kellison:

“It’s not my first time, man.” Interview over, Rook shrugged into his trim black wool coat. “I know what to do if I spot a likely target.” It’d been a few years, but what to look for hadn’t changed.

Innocent, unsuspecting fools.

Yeah, he knew how to find them. And once down the rabbit hole, there was no coming back again. Just a screaming fall into a darkness as infinite and clutching as a nightmare. No waking up, either.

God, why couldn’t he just wake up?

“Only, it’s been a while since you went hunting,” Coll observed, that level gaze assessing, always measuring, but giving away nothing. “Why the sudden change?”

Rook kept his reasons for going to himself; he didn’t owe Coll explanations. Not anymore. What did he know, anyway? Coll had an easy life working behind a desk, occasionally flying out somewhere, and getting himself a swank room from which to monitor at a distance. It was hard not to stare at the wall-to-wall view of the San Diego Bay—and the ocean beyond, vast and calm, restful. Rook wasn’t one to give in to envy, but a little peace would go a long way right now.

“It’s a big step backward from the work you’ve been doing,” Coll pressed.

Rook exchanged his wallet for the one waiting on the tray that Coll had provided—time to become, let’s see, Michael Reese; at least they’d kept his initials—and slid it in the back pocket of his jeans.

Of course, he could’ve explained to Coll that he’d been on the inside too long. That he had to get a taste of the virgin experience again to keep his edge. Any Chimera could relate.

But he was too far gone for easy lies.

Darkness lurked at the edges of his vision, crackling and dense with reproach—not that he could make out anything right now, or ever—but when he turned to confront it, the blind spot shifted, too. It was as if he had a fringe space in the back of his mind, one in which an intruder could hide, its presence hounding him like a constant uncertainty.

Rook had to go out or he’d lose his mind. He had to go out or Coll would have to put him down like a mad dog.

The alternate phone on the tray was a sleek little silver thing, the latest to hit the market, whereas his personal mobile was at least a year behind. Both were unnecessary. He had other ways of keeping current—other, more intimate ways to track his marks.

“You could shave, at least. Make yourself pretty.” Coll’s idea of a joke.

Since he’d decided to back off, Rook offered a dry one of his own. “Girls like me rough. Guys, too, actually.”

Writing Asmodeus from Her Wicked Angel

Thank you, Becky, for having me here today at Underworld Love Addiction as part of my Her Wicked Angel Virtual Book Tour!

First, here’s a little about me. I’m a paranormal romance author and I’ve been writing since 2005, and went indie in 2006. I love to write big worlds, populated by vampires, shifters, demons, fae and angels, and I have several series. This tour is about the Her Angel series, where passionate angels fight to protect the women they love in a deadly war between Heaven and Hell.

Today, I’m going to talk a little about writing Asmodeus, the hero of the newest release in the Her Angel series, Her Wicked Angel.

Writing Asmodeus was always going to be difficult but after releasing Her Demonic Angel, the fifth book in the series, I asked readers who they would love to see as a hero, and he came top of the poll. It was a fantastic result as I had always intended to write his story next. The trouble is, he’s also mostly evil and in Her Demonic Angel was one of the bad guys, and was best known for a moment when he was busy torturing one of the other characters in the book and then fighting another and generally being what he is—evil. Not exactly hero material, right?

Asmodeus is the clone of one of the previous heroes in the series, Apollyon, but he’s a clone with a difference. Apollyon and the Devil are locked in a constant cycle where they must fight each other every so many centuries and the outcome of that fight affects the world. If Apollyon wins, Heaven prevails and the Devil is trapped in the Bottomless Pit in Hell until their next battle. If Apollyon loses, the Devil can escape Hell and wreak havoc upon Earth. The first time Apollyon lost, the Devil tortured him to the brink of insanity, unleashing all that was dark in him and driving out all that was good. He used the blood of this evil side of Apollyon to create Asmodeus, and Asmodeus has spent millennia in Hell working for the Devil as his right hand man.

Turning Asmodeus into a hero was not going to be an easy task but I was willing to take on the challenge because I knew something about him that readers did not.

He might be 99.9% evil, but there is 0.01% good in him, and it’s that fragment of good that his heroine, Liora, sees in him. She grows determined to make him admit it exists and show him that he can be the man he wants to be, and doesn’t have to be the one everyone expects him to be, and that good can be a strength rather than a weakness.

It was difficult to strike a balance between the good and the evil in Asmodeus, and also his innocence and experience. I didn’t want to portray him as totally evil as he had appeared in the previous book. I wanted to show readers that while the scales were tipped towards evil, there was still some good in him, but it was buried deep. It took Liora to prod and poke at that seed of good to make it begin to grow, and begin to give him more balance in his character.

I really loved exploring this complicated and contradictory hero. He has been around for thousands of years, but all of those years were passed in Hell, working for the Devil. He knows of the mortal world, but has no experience of it. It was fun tossing him into that brash, noisy, colourful world and giving him a heroine who is bold and stubborn, and powerful in her own right. There was something satisfying about throwing this powerful, dark male off balance and watching him fight the current as he struggles to learn how to behave in that world, experiences new things, and discovers that there is more good in him than he had originally thought. He went through so many emotions in the story, feeling each one keenly, and coming to know new ones such as fear and love. It was wonderful to watch him grow and come to fight for Liora, and to eventually realise that he had fallen in love with the wicked little witch.

Asmodeus might not be a contender for hero of the year at the end of the book, but he’s on his way to finding balance between the evil and the good in him, and he’s stealing hearts along the way.

I hope you enjoyed this insight into writing Asmodeus, the hero of Her Wicked Angel.

Review: "Her Wicked Angel" by Felicity Heaton

Asmodeus is a dark angel created by evil for the purpose of destruction. Living centuries in hell, he is forced to follow the commands of his Master, the devil himself.  Living a life of solitude, Asmodeus can't help but wonder what it would be like to see the world from the other side just once. When his Master commands him to the mortal world to retrieve a female he jumps at the chance. What he doesn't expect is the instant attraction he feels towards his target, especially when she calls to him by name.

Liora, is one hot headed witch. She has a personal vendetta towards demons... all demons... she doesn't discriminate.  When her coven sends her to Paris to cool off she comes face to face with the hottest, most wicked angel she's ever seen... Appollyn's so-called evil twin brother. How can an angel so incredibly gorgeous, be evil? Appollyn and her cousin have to be wrong, there's good in him, and she's going to be the one to show him that being bad can hurt so good.

This right here is why I LOVE paranormal romance! I can't get enough of these angels with sensitive wings! Heaton does it again with another sexy, incredibly erotic angel story...

Caution:
This book contains...
-An angel with sensitive horns?!?..you'll see ;)
-Incredibly hot sex with a virgin angel that's a quick study..
-Angels that like to show off their..err swords.
-Hot nights on a sandy beach
-...and a pissed off Dragon

Giveaway and Interview: Vampire Erotic Theatre by Felicity Heaton

Interview with Lilah from Covet by Felicity Heaton

It’s great to be here today at Underworld Love Addiction as part of my Vampirerotique Winter Tour celebrating the series and my latest release, Bewitch.

Today, I’ll be talking to the heroine of the first book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series, the wonderfully sweet but stubborn Lilah.

Lilah is a human owned against her will. Lord Ashville took her from her life of misfortune and gave his blood to her without her consent, forming a bond master-servant between them that can only be broken by death. A strong and courageous woman, Lilah refuses to let Lord Ashville’s ownership of her wreck her life. When he grows tired of her behaviour and sends her to work at Vampirerotique, she sets eyes on a certain sexy Spaniard and develops feelings for him, even though he’s not only her boss but forbidden by law. Lilah knows the risks and tries to resist her desire for Javier, but when she finds herself alone with him, she can’t bring herself to care about the consequences. She would rather have Javier for a short time than never know his touch or his kiss.

Read on to find out more about Lilah from the woman herself.

FH: I have Lilah here with me today to talk about her book, Covet and life at Vampirerotique. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

LILAH: I haven’t had a very smooth life. I spent a large part of it on the street before coming under the “ownership” of Lord Ashville, an aristocrat vampire. Some vampires have a sick sense of right and wrong, and Lord Ashville was one of those vampires. He took me from the streets and practically enslaved me. I had to work for him at his mansion. When things didn’t work out there because I was proving to be quite the disruptive force when it came to his other owned humans, he shipped me off to Vampirerotique. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. I’m glad he did though. I hated the bastard and wanted to run away. That’s just not possible though. His claim on me is like a homing beacon or GPS. He knows where I am at all times, unless he travels a very long distance from me.

FH: It sounds as though you went from a bad life to a far worse one. It must have been very difficult for you. I know that afterwards you discovered that you were meant to have a choice about becoming his property. That must have made you hate him all the more.

LILAH: It did. That’s why I started acting up and trying to escape. I didn’t willingly enter into the contract and I figured I should be allowed to get the hell out of there and away from his insane world. I never believed things like vampires existed, but they’re certainly darker in reality than they are in films. Lord Ashville was cruel and it sickened me to call him master.

FH: It hasn’t all been bad for you though. By becoming Lord Ashville’s, you ended up at Vampirerotique and there you met Javier. How did you meet and how did you feel about them initially?

LILAH: This might sound corny, but I honestly feel it was love at first sight. When I arrived there scared and angry, bitter over my treatment, I felt in my heart that all vampires were the same. The first few I met proved my theory true, but then Javier walked into the room and everything changed. He took me away from the meeting between Lord Ashville and Antoine, one of the other owners of the theatre, and introduced me to the rest of the staff. He took care of me... I had never thought a vampire could be so gentle and so caring. Javier proved me wrong. My hatred of my master reached a new depth then... because I was bound to him and that meant that Javier and I could never be together, even if he returned the feelings I began to feel for him as we worked together.

FH: It really sounds as though your love was destined to have an unhappy ending. I’m glad that in the end it all worked out though and your life is now so much better. As you mentioned, your relationship with Javier was forbidden by sacred law. It must have been difficult for you to see him every night and know you could never act on your feelings. How did you cope?

LILAH: Not very well. Whenever Javier would pass me by when I was cleaning the theatre or would stop near me to speak to someone else, I would lose track of time watching him. Sometimes he looked at me too. Not at first... but as my first year with Vampirerotique wore on, he began to look at me too. Just glances to start with, stolen moments where our eyes would meet... those moments shook me though and I knew without a doubt that there was something happening between us... and that it was something we could never act on without fear of losing our lives. I spent two years falling in love with Javier and I felt deep inside me that he returned those feelings, but we were bound, destined to remain apart even when we wanted to be together. It was terrible.

FH: You’re making me want to cry. It’s so cruel that you couldn’t be with each other without risking death. But you’re here, alive and well, so things must have turned out okay in the end. Can you tell us about what happened in your story?

LILAH: I remember that Javier had been away for a month. It seemed like an eternity. I missed him so much and when he returned, I saw him straight away. I had been a little bad. I had punched Victor, the theatre’s top performer, and broken his nose somehow. I didn’t think I had that much strength in me and I had thought he would stop me before I could actually hit him. Javier came to hear my side of the story. Unfortunately... or perhaps fortunately... I was cleaning the empty theatre boxes at the time. It was during the opening performance of the season... and with the erotic show happening in the background and no one able to see us... things just sort of happened.

FH: I would say more than a “thing” happened in that box! (she blushes) How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

LILAH: I was scared at first. It was a hard thing to go through and on top of that something else happened and while it means I will always be with Javier, it’s also a lot to take in and get used to... but I’m settling into my new life at the theatre.

FH: Your story, Covet, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?

LILAH: Absolutely. I’ve made appearances in many of the stories... or should I call them romances? Vampirerotique was a strange enough place to work at when I was part of the staff. Making the switch from staff to lover of one of the owners was one hell of a leap, and I’m still settling in. Javier doesn’t want me to work anymore but I like to do my part, and I think that has made it easier for me to integrate with the owners. Antoine wasn’t pleased about everything that happened and he always has such a weight on his shoulders that I hated adding to it. I had thought him quite soulless when I had been working for the theatre, but now that I’ve spent more time with him, I know that he’s just under a lot of pressure, constantly. I don’t envy him at all, but I do my best to help ease his burden and I think he appreciates it. Snow can be quite the handful but he seems to like me. I’ve even made him laugh a few times. I do all I can for him because I honestly feel that I owe him my life, and the life of my love too.

FH: Snow is a contradiction, it has to be said, but from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a good man under that growly exterior and he suffers a lot because of his bloodlust. I’m going to end on something a little more fun. Describe yourself in one word?

LILAH: Courageous.

FH: I couldn’t have chosen a better word myself. Any woman who walks into a world of vampires and comes out with the heart of one of them, and the appreciation of two other very powerful vampires, has to be courageous. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

LILAH: Thank you for interviewing me and I’ve read the interview you did with Javier. Boy, did he get some sweet loving after that. The man is such a romantic. I think it drives his brother, Andreu, crazy but I think it’s wonderful and something I would never change about him. Good luck with the rest of the interviews. I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

Javier knows better than to succumb to his hunger for Lilah. The mortal female belongs to a powerful aristocrat patron of Vampirerotique, the theatre he runs with three other vampires. Lilah has fought her desire for Javier since arriving at his theatre as a servant but each glance he has stolen, his eyes promising pleasure that will satisfy her longing for him, has chipped away at her defences and she can no longer deny her need and her forbidden feelings for the powerful vampire male.

Review and Giveaway: "Her Demonic Angel" by Felicity Heaton

A demonic angel with a heart of ice, Veiron walks a dark path with vengeance on his mind. Nothing will sway him from his mission to destroy his master... until he risks his life to enter Hell once more to save a mortal female. The fiery beauty makes him burn with a hunger he must battle and needs he cannot deny, tempting him to surrender body and soul to her.

Erin is convinced her refusal to do the Devil’s bidding will see her die in a terrifying realm straight out of her nightmares. The last thing she expects is the lethally sensual warrior who breaks into her cell and awakens the darkest desires of her heart and a fierce longing to know the heat of his caress.

Pulled into an incredible world where war is set to ignite and darkness is on the rise, Erin races with Veiron to escape the Devil’s legions in a journey fraught with danger and filled with passion that flares white-hot.

When Erin is faced with a life-shattering realization and an extraordinary destiny, will their love give them the strength to battle both Heaven and Hell or will they be parted forever?

"Her Demonic Angel" is the fifth book in the "Her Angel" series by Felicity Heaton.  It can certainly be read as a stand alone book as well though.

This is by far my favorite book by Felicity Heaton.  The story took so many twist and turns.  Just when I thought I had things figured out, everything got flipped upside down.

Veiron is not your typical angel.  He was once an angel working in the heavens but continues to fall and be a servant to the devil.  Now a Hell's angel, he still has many redeeming qualities.  One of which is his devotion and love to Erin.  This man will stop at nothing to protect this woman and she will do the same for him.  Erin is able to overlook his demonic side and see the real man behind his demon appearance.  When in his human form he has crimson red hair and wings (when he wants them), tattoos, armor when needed... he's just a bad-ass.  Isn't that our favorite kind of guy?  Bad-ass with a softer side only for his woman and friends.

This book was full of so much action and suspense, mixed with some steamy moments between Erin and Veiron.  The well developed side characters really added to the story line as well.  I loved that Veiron and Erin seemed to have to rely on each other equally.  They both had so much to overcome to be together.  Felicity Heaton has certainly outdone herself with the amazing love story, intense fight scenes and heart stopping suspense.  This is definitively a must read for all paranormal romance fans!

Review: "Enslave" by Felicity Heaton

"Enslave" is Felicity Heaton's fourth book in her "Vampire Erotic Theatre" series.

Andreau has been working at Antoine's Vampire Erotic Theatre until he can make good on his plans to start his own business in Spain.  His love life was the last thing on his mind until a deadly succubus visits the theater.  Varya is a succubus that feeds from the energy of others, never taking time to get to know any of her hosts.  When she meets Andreau and learns of his dark, shadowed aura she know her clan's warnings tell her to stay far away from him but that doesn't stop her mysterious draw towards him.  Andreau knows he needs to get her far away from the theater but fate seems to have other plans for them.  If they give into the passion they're feeling will they each survive it when even her kisses can be deadly?

All of the stories in this series are short, at 100+ pages.  They're great for when you need a quick read.  Felicity Heaton has a way with these hot vampires and I love that she's adding more to the paranormal demographics as the series progresses.  Andreau and Varya's smoking hot chemistry really made the story.  I love a man who will do anything to make his woman happy and is always looking out for her best interest!  This is a tale of forbidden romance but Varya definitely doesn't let that stop her.  She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go for it.  We also get to know a lot more about Payne that we've only gotten glimpses of so far in the series.  I'm interested to get to know more about him and of course more about Snow.  Snow seems like the ultra alpha-dangerous-bad boy with a huge heart.  I would love to see him overcome his blood addiction and find someone to make him happy.  Ms. Heaton gets a little more graphic in some of the theater scenes in this one so it's not for the faint at heart in that department.  Andreau and Varya's relationship was a heart-warming, passionate and forbidden romance which made for a great read!  As usual with this series, this book could certainly be read alone but you get a little deeper story out of the side characters by reading the series in order.

Review: "Seduce" by Felicity Heaton

Seduce is the 3rd installment in the "Vampire Erotic Theater" series.  This is a novella that can be read as a stand-alone without feeling lost in the story.

Bloodlust runs in his veins, a dark master waiting for the day it will reign over him. Now a woman with a pure soul and wicked intentions has him in her sights and is determined to crack the ice around his heart.

Antoine, one of the owners of Vampirerotique, has kept himself walled off from all emotion since his blood addiction has been threatening to take over.  With a dark past that haunts him every day, the only one he cares about anymore is his brother, Snow.  That is until Sera comes into the theater one night with her Sire to audition for a job.  Sera has no idea that awakening feelings in Antoine that had long been buried could be her downfall.  Will she risk it all for the unattainable Antoine?  Will she even want to when she finds out about his dark addiction?

Sera certainly has a "get him at all costs" attitude.  She's been admiring Antoine from afar at the theater but now has come up with the "brilliant" plan to audition for a part in order to get some alone time with him.  Things don't go down quite like she was hoping but obviously we wouldn't have a story if she didn't get somewhere *wink, wink*.  Antoine was certainly a tough man to crack, but after getting to know him and his brother Snow, you can certainly tell why.  Especially with a past relationship that he has been dwelling over for many years.  Their story managed to build it's way up even for a shorter book and didn't feel rushed.

I have to say that I am really anticipating Snow's book now!  We found out just enough about him to be very intrigued while still leaving him a huge mysterious, tortured character.  I can't wait for him to get his happily-ever-after.  Obviously I'm not alone since Ms. Heaton is holding out on his story, saving the best for last I'm hoping.  This was certainly a fast, sexy read!

Her next book in the series, "Enslave" will be coming out in August.  Then "Bewitch" in late fall and "Unleash" (which I'm hoping will be Snow's) in 2013.
